You got to love you!

Good morning beautiful people!!! I want to discuss body image.   I know I am not the only one who will walk by something that shows your reflection  and think dang I am still fat.  You will notice your flabby arms, thick thighs and big gut and wonder why everybody keep saying you are melting away.   Because all you see is your former fat self.   Here is the thing that we got to remember is that…. the mind is deceiving YOU!   YOU have lost a significant about of weight.  YOU are making good food choices!  YOU got a lot to be proud of!  Body image can derail any weight loss goal.

However all you got to do is remember this phrase protein first.  I never understood this until later after my surgery how important this phrase was.  Protein first is a phase that everybody who ever had gastric bypass surgery needs to post on their refrigerator. Hang it in your bathroom, hang it from your stove, or it in the cabinet doors… So when you open the door you see it.   Make a bracelet, put it in your car, put it in your office refrigerator.  Shoot  put in on your home screen of your cell phone and lap top.  When you keep seeing this phrase everytime you go to eat anything you can control your eating  habits.  Unless you are over eating and stretching that pouch which will lead to weight gain.

What we have to understand is that protein is a nutrient that helps us feel fuller, longer. If we include proteins in each of our meals or healthy snacks, we’re less likely to feel hungry when it’s not time to eat.

I know you are wondering  what can I do to be effective to ensure that I lose and maintain my weight loss.  In my opinion the number one rule is to eat protein rich foods first. See here is the thing after  surgery, your body will need adequate protein to help build, repair, and maintain muscle tissue and organs. Protein deficiency can occur over an extended period of time which can cause fatigue, hair loss, and muscle wasting.   I remember when I was about three months out after my RNY gastric bypass… My fingernails were so soft and brittle I could barely stratch  myself. Then my big dumb self tried to cover them up with fake nails.  Omg… That hurt so bad it was crazy.   I hurried up and bought Boltin.  Then my hair started falling out also…. Talk about going thru.  That was a really hard period to go thru but I made it thru.  The hair issue was not so bad for me because I love wigs.
Just remember Proteins are one of the essential building blocks of the human body and you need them.

The next time you walk by something that shows your reflection.. Say to yourself.  I look good, and I am doing good therefore I am good! 😊  You got to encourage yourself!! Because you are your biggest motivator.  Love the skin you are in.  Because you could still be that former you.

Peace, Happiness and Love!!

3 more pounds gone bye bye sucker!

Good day beautiful people!!

I am on a losing streak and have started losing weight again after cutting all of my bad habits out…well about 95% of them.  Because lets be truthful… there is no way I can cut everything out.  It takes time and patience.  I know I am not the only one that will accidentally pick up a cookie and take a bite and then realize….. Oh Heck I can’t eat that.  But here is were I will pat myself on the back.  I will chew that one bite real slow and that’s all I eat.  Because as I have said several time since I started back blogging…..I will not go back to the Fat TRACY.  Look back at my previous post to see my picture were I weigh around 342 pound…here is the link to the picture.  This picture alone makes me control my eating habits From a size 28 to a size 14 and I love it!!!

I have seen so many people who has travel down this very same road that I am traveling down and they regain all their weight back.  My beautiful sister is one such person.  She gave me permission to discuss her weight regain.  Now mind you she has had several surgeries over the last 14 years.  She was 402 pounds when she had her surgery and she lost all the way down to 225 pounds.  Then she started having all these medical issues such as hiatal hernia and a umbilical hernia from all the loose skin that was removed.  She also had hernias repaired and starting holding on to her weight and gain 5 pounds here and there.  Then when she finally seem to be getting better she had a serious bowel obstruction, diverticulitis and abscesses on the left side on her colon which she also had to have surgery for.  So she had several major surgeries that really derailed her weight loss and when you are sick.  You don’t really focus on what you eating because you are in so much pain which she was.   Thanks Nikki for letting me share your story.  Now here is the thing this could be  me or anybody else.  We have to stay focus and stop any bad behaviors that starts to pop up. Now with my sister I believe her was different because she had so many difficulty surgeries that really causes her severe issues.  I do believe that you are able to reset your weight loss and start over.  Because I have did it, even though I am only about 3 years out.  I know my weight gain wasn’t nothing like Nikki but as I said before a 10 pounds gain, will lead to another 10 pound gain and before you know it you have gain about half of what you  lost.

I am so happy to report as of today which will makes it a week since I started doing everything correctly and cut so much negative behaviors out I have lost a total of 6 pounds in a week time!! I feel like I did when I first had the surgery and I was dropping weight like raindrops.  I am getting a lot of water in and doing only the required protein amount for protein shakes in the morning which is 30 grams proteins in one shake.  Eating chicken, turkey, protein bars, Greek yogurts throughout the day.

I never really started eating bread. It was those dang snacks…potato chips, cheese puffs, popcorn loaded with butter. Which for whatever reason never filled me up, that got me.  These are called slider food.  Slider food are soft simple processed carbohydrates of little or no nutritional value that slide right through the surgical stomach pouch without providing nutrition or satiation. Satiation is define: as to satisfy to the full.  Meaning you will not get full like you will with a couple of bites of grill chicken or turkey, etc.  In other words those potato chips that I loved would slide right through my little pouch ( Her name is Shelly) not filling me up at all. So in the process my butt would eat a whole bag …big or small.  I know, I know “Tracy why did you even start eating those again.”  I will tell you why because I was stupid.  Because when I first reintroduced them to my new pouch.. Shelly the belly cut up like a fool. I would dump like crazy! Now they don’t bother me at all.

So I am warning you right now Slider foods are your enemy!! Do not I repeat do not start eating them little bad suckers.

We have to remember that for Gastric bypass patients the process of digestion is different than those who have not undergone gastric surgery. When slider foods are eaten they go into the stomach pouch and exit directly into the jejunum (the part of the small intestine between the duodenum and ileum) where the simple carbohydrate is quickly absorbed and stored by the body as dang fat. Because these are simple carbohydrate no energy is even used when they are digested. Nevertheless because of my bad eating habits there was a weight gain and my weight loss plateau.  The whole point of  Shelly the belly being created by my doctor was to help me lose weight and keep it off.  Shelly the belly  should have caused me to have feelings of tightness or restriction when I ate enough food. However, when I ate those dang chips and bad snacks I didn’t have feeling of tightness or restriction..so I would continue to eat them.  The feeling of discomfort is intended to signal the my butt to stop eating.   I have learned and you don’t have to tell me now…….. to remember the number one rule “Protein First”. Sorry people that this is so long.  But I wanted to post this information because it may help somebody from traveling down this road like I did.

Peace, love and Happiness!!

Tracy

P.S.  Here is a list of some slider foods:

Pretzels, crackers (saltines, graham, Ritz, etc.) filled cracker snacks such as Ritz Bits, popcorn, ice cream, cookies, cheese snacks (Cheetos) or cheese crackers, tortilla chips with salsa, potato chips, sugar-free cookies, cakes, and candy.

Celebrating a 3 pounds lost!

Good afternoon beautiful people!

I am on a come back and I am celebrating like it is 1999!  Since I started cutting all those fatty foods out and doing what my nutritionist recommended I have lost 3 pounds this week.  She and I discussed my coffee and lack of water intake and she told me that I was only allowed one cup a day.  She explained the importance of me getting my required amount of water.  She also explained that  coffee contains Caffeine  which is a diuretic which means that it increases the amount that you urinate and it dehydrates  you.  Nevertheless I knew that I was not consuming enough water on a daily basis.  The coffee and caffeine was just complicating my the situation even more.  The nutritionist also say that to much coffee can cause you to have stomach ulcers.  So guess what….. Your girl will only do one cup of coffee and I have increased my water intake alot to the required 64 ounces a day.   I schedule a follow appointment for her this month.  I will also start doing the post op classes located at my Gastric bypass doctor office.  This will help me stay focus and on the correct path.

I am so proud of myself and as a result I am going to fix myself a treat.  I know you are thinking oh here she go….getting ready to self sabotage again.  No, no, no  let me explain.   I am going to try a recipe for blueberry muffins that  are low in fat and carbs, sugar free and loaded with proteins.  I will do a post about the nutrition and add a picture if  they turn out good.  This may be a healthy item that I can have daily.

God blessing

Love, peace and happiness!

Digging deep down and pulling myself back up!

vitaminGood morning beautiful people!!

  • Well today is not good day for your girl.  I have notice that I am feeling really tired and drained.  I can’t really figure out what is going on.  So while doing my research on my protein intake for  my protein limits in one shake I look over the vitamins requirement and remember that I hadn’t taken a Vitamin D in months.  I don’t know if this is what is making me feel sluggish and tired.  However I am going to the drug store today and purchase a couple of jars.  I have always taken:
  • my multivitamin
  • Blood pressure,
  • GERD (Acid reflux)
  • Fluid retention
  • B-12,
  • Biotin

However I have been iffy about the Calcium citrate  and potassium pills because I always took it 4 hours later.  Well that stops today.  I have put alarm on my phone to remind to take pills at lunch time and around 4:00 for my other dose.  I believe I am far enough out after my surgery to develop deficiencies from not taking these vitamins.

Now before you start hollering “are you stupid you know you got to take that Vitamin D.”  Let me explain how it slipped my mind.  I ran out of vitamin D and threw the bottle in the trash and was going to pick a bottle up and just forgot about it.  I mean really I had so much stuff going on last year.  Which is when I think I stop taking that vitamin.  I was going through and still going though some major personal stuff.  I was schedule to have my hip replaced around the first of August and it was canceled because I starting have severe pain in my stomach.  I thought I was dumping.  However I was wrong…it was my gallbladder.  So I had to have a two surgery last August to have my gallbladder removed and two weeks later they had to go back in the old stomach and remove a gallstones that had travel down my bile duct and they were not able to get it when I had the gallbladder remove.  Now just imagine have two surgery in one month on your stomach area.  (ALSO IMPORTANT NOTE:  IF YOU HURT IN YOUR STOMACH!! SKIP YOUR LOCAL ER (emergency room).  IF YOU HAD THE GASTRIC BYPASS THEY WILL NOT TOUCH YOU WITH A 12 FEET POLE. Go to your ER Hospital where you had your gastric bypass and call your gastric bypass doctor.)  This is how I forgot.

I know this is new news to everyone because my blogging has gotten really bad and I am trying to correct that now. Because this is information that people need to know to help them as they travel down this path.

I did talk to my nutritionist and she did inform me that I was taking too much protein at one time. She explained that all I need was one cup of milk, and one scoop of my protein in one drink.  She said do not included Greek yogurt.  She also made appointment for me to come in meet with her and I signed up for the classes for Post Op therapy group to help me with getting back on track.  I am being really proactive and I am going to have to make sure I don’t fall off again.  I have also decided to start going to my YMCA near my office and exercise during lunch.  What I am able to eat only take a few minutes and I rarely go out to lunch with my coworkers because I feel like I waste money.  I mean really I don’t eat enough to even go anywhere. I come out better just eating a can of chicken or tuna.  Plus when I go out to eat. There is always a lot of food left over and I end up getting a take out tray and guess what I do with that plate…I nibble on it all day while at the office.   So I want to exercise and during that time. Plus it gets me out of this dang office.  I will still go in the evening with my son also to the YMCA.

Any suggestions would greatly help. Because we all know that this is a trial and error program and you learn by listening and talking about your experiences with others.

Love, Peace and Happiness!

The battle has just begin!

Good morning beautiful people!  I am having a major hissy fit.  I have gain 10 pounds back and I am about to have a physical heart attack.  I want to say I don’t know how this happen however I do.  I have started sliding in fatty foods like potatoes chips, candy bars and popcorn.  To say my life has been thrown for a loop is an understatement.  I am about to pass out. I know most people will say 10 pounds is nothing and I can get back on track.  However I know how easily 10 pounds can lead to 10 more pounds and 10 more pounds can lead to another 10 pounds. Before you know I will be weighing around 250.  Heck to no and I am stopping this crap right now.  Somebody just walk in my office with a box of FRESH KRISTY KREME donut and I ran the other way while wiping drool from my mouth. However I am not stupid and this is not a laughing matter.   I also feel like my personal life which is in turmoil affected my eating habits because I cook and eat when I am stressed.  This is not a good habit to have. So I have resort to buying all kinds of fruits like Cuties, strawberries, watermelon…..Healthy snacks.

I am back in the gym and I am pushing my butt hard. My orthopedic doctor said I could resume  all exercise and I am planning on starting to jog.  Right now I am getting myself ready by using a machine that resemblance jogging. My hip do ting somewhat but that is to be expected.  I am being mindful not to overdue it because I don’t want to relocated that new hip.

I was talking with my sister who had the RNY gastric bypass about 10 years ago and we was discussing protein intake.  She told me that I was drinking to much protein at one time and my body is not able to absorb it.  I do:

  • 1 cup of 2% milk 8 grams of proteins 122 calories, 12 carbs
  • 2 scoops of Banana protein powder from Isopure Carb free.  It has 210 calories and 50gms of proteins in two scoops
  • 1 protein load yogurt usual banana flavor. ( I love banana and strawberry flavor food)  It has 0 fat, 0 added sugar*, and 0 artificial sweeteners – plus 15g of protein per 5.3 oz.  However it has 120 calories, 14 carbs

This all equal out to 450 calories, 73 grams of protein, 26 carbs.  This is usually my morning meal every day.  However on the weekend I get lax and may not do a protein shake.  Well this will change also because I will make sure I do a protein shake everyday.  Now back to the problem at hand.  I have call my nutrition at my Gastric bypass doctor to get clarity. However, my sister said I got to cut my protein in the morning to around 40 grams of proteins otherwise I don’t absorb it.  Here is my problem I must have miss that class or I was sleepy and did not hear it.  I really need to know the answer because if that is the case I got to change that morning protein drink real quick.  Another thing is that I got to start doing a shake at night also to make sure I have gotten my protein intake. I never do one at night because I usually get my protein throughout the day with my lunch and dinner meal.  Even though I am about 3 years out coming up in July.  I still do not know everything and I know I am at the point were I can start regaining weight.

That is not going to happen and I am getting my vessel back on track. I am going to YMCA everyday this week and burning major calories.  I had gotten slack and was only going once every couple of week.  That not the case now.  Plus I have never reached my goal weight which is 175 pounds and now I am ready to do it.  I have also called my nutritionist and is waiting for a call from her. I am going to start going to the classes that they offer for patients who have had the surgery to help them maintain and stay on the healthy track.

If anybody have any suggestions or comments please give them I need to get this battleship back in the war.  I had forgotten that this battle wasn’t over.  It was only getting started.  The weight loss surgery is a tool that I got to use to manage and control and get to the desired weight that I want.

Thanks Everybody and have a beautiful day.  Keep me and my struggle in your mind when you whisper a prayer tonight.

Peace, Love and Happiness

Back to the basics

Good afternoon Beautiful people!  Let’s talk about weight regain a very important part of weight loss surgery afterward.  Everybody  knows that regaining weight after a WLS (weight loss surgery) is  scary.   When you gain weight and you have previously fought  to lose it is scary as heck.   For myself,  I picture  my previous  body size before  my weight loss surgery.   That’s makes me shake in my boots and stop eating any  chips or sweets.  You got to know that  I am in this game to win it.   When people notice I am going to the gym, the first thing they ask me is why.  I mean really why ask  why.  To me it’s simple anybody  can gain weight back and you got to stay proactive on this journey for the rest of your life.  You got to get up and move to keep the weight off when all you want to do is sleep.  You got to exercise and watch what you put in your mouth period.  One of my hardest struggle is when I go out to eat with my family.  They are usually watching my plate and will argue  about who is going to get my leftovers like I can’t eat them later.  This makes me eat more because I don’t want anybody else to eat my food.  I am aware that I have this problem and I am focusing on letting go.  So what if they eat the leftover plate at least you didn’t.  It’s hard and if anyone told you this journey was going to be easy they are lying.   Because you are fighting  this eating habits many times throughout the day.    What are your struggles? What causes you grief the most on this  journey?

Stay bless!  Love, peace and happiness!!
